Ridge Lose Close One in Shortened Game - (4/2/2009)
The Ridge Red Devils opened the season at home vs. the top ranked Group IV team in the state. Ridge battled Hunterdon Central and the elements on Wednesday and lost a close one 5-4.
Hunterdon Central took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning. Kyle Burdi then kept the strong lineup in check until the Ridge Offense could get un-tracked..
In the 4th inning, down 3-0, Ridge broke through as Ben Edsall lined a 2-run homer over the left field fence to make it 3-2.
In the sixth inning, Central broke through with some insurance runs to make the score 5-2. It was runs they needed.
In the bottom of the sixth, Ridge came storming back with some patience at the plate. With two outs they loaded the bases for Kyle Burdi. Kyle helped his own cause with a double to right field. Wet base paths prevented the tying run from scoring. With runners on second and third, Eric Salomone drilled a shot to the deepest part of the ball park. Unfortunately it was caught and the conditions got worse leading to the shortened game.
Next, Ridge faces Montgomery at home on Friday, April 3rd. They are then away at Elizabeth on Saturday April 4th.
